Description

A Film by John Ankele & Anne Macksoud

In Rochester, New York, a woman with 90% support from her congregation is barred from serving as a pastor of her Presbyterian church because she is a lesbian. Her protesters argue that lesbianism is contrary to God's order. This video presents interviews and footage of the Rochester religious court hearings. One parishioner who once described himself as homophobic asks, "If this woman is thoroughly decent, how is that inconsistent with basic Christianity?"

"This skillfully crafted film takes viewers inside the experience of a congregation that found good and sufficient reason to call a lesbian woman as its pastor. It shows that homophobia in the Church is overcome not by argument, but by experiences of divine and human love." - Professor Tom F. Driver, Union Theological Seminary
