A Film by Suzanne Osten
A Swedish opera director - an anguished, divorce-wracked enfant terrible -
has a bizzare vision for a production of Don Giovanni. The director's zeal startles
and horrifies his conservative cast and orchestra. His mission, however, is
clear: to shatter convention and release the pure sensuality of Mozart's music.
Slowly, his vision is realized; resistance breaks down and emotions soar as
the opening day approaches. Wonderful comic performances by stars of the Stockholm
Opera are the perfect compliment to Don Giovanni's sublime score.
"Witty...uproarious." - Vincent Canby, New York Times
"One of the best films about music ever made... an operatic answer to
This is Spinal Tap.- Tim Page, Newsday
