Directed by Oscar® nominee Fridrik Thor Fridriksson (Children of Nature) and narrated by Oscar® winner Kate Winslet, A MOTHER’S COURAGE: Talking Back to Autism is the profound chronicle of one mother’s search to unlock her son’s mind and help him to function in the world. A MOTHER’S COURAGE was an official selection of the Toronto Film Festival, and will have its U.S. theatrical premiere on September 24, at New York’s Quad Cinema followed by a release to select cities. The DVD will be released on October 26.

Margret, whose ten-year-old son Keli is severely autistic, has tried a number of treatments to help her son. Consumed by an unquenchable thirst for knowledge about this mysterious and complex condition, she travels from her home in Iceland to the United States and Europe, meeting with top autism experts and advocates.

She also connects with several other families touched by autism, whose struggles echo her own: the endless doctor visits and experiments with different treatments, the complication of doing everyday tasks, and the inability to communicate – perhaps the most painful and frustrating aspect of autism.

But as she comes across innovative new therapies with the potential to break down the walls of autism, Margret finds hope that her son may be able to express himself on a level she never thought possible.

Among the experts and advocates Margret encounters are:
• Dr. Temple Grandin, Best-Selling Author and Autism Advocate, recently the subject of an HBO Film starring Claire Danes
• Dr. David G. Amaral, Research Director, MIND (Medical Investigation of Neurodevelopmental Disorders) Institute
• Dr. Simon Baron-Cohen, Director, Autism Research Centre at the University of Cambridge
• Dr. Geraldine Dawson, Chief Science Officer, Autism Speaks
• Soma Mukhopadhyay, who developed the Rapid Prompting Method to teach her autistic son Tito, now a published author
• Portia Iverson and Jonathan Shestack, parents of an autistic child and founders of Cure Autism Now.

A MOTHER’S COURAGE: Talking Back to Autism was directed by Fridrik Thor Fridriksson; executive producer, Kristin Olafsdottir; producer, Margret Dagmar Ericsdottir; associate producer, John Purdie; narrated by Kate Winslet; director of photography, Jon Karl Helgason; editor, Thuridur Einarsdottir; music by Sigur Rós and Björk.

“WITNESS A MIRACLE AS IT HAPPENS! A Mother’s Courage will allow people to once again have hope.” - Rosie O'Donnell

“A mystery replete with miracles! Will leave audiences stunned and rethinking what has long been considered a disorder devoid of hope.” - John Anderson, Variety

A Mother’s Courage does not sugarcoat autism, or celebrate it, or cure it. Its strength lies in that it shows the heart-wrenching reality of what families have to go through – the pain they feel when their bubbly, verbal child regresses and becomes autistic. It is a good resource for promoting community awareness that families can share with relatives and neighbors to gain a better understanding of what those affected by autism go through every day.”
- Chantal Sicile-Kira (Author of 41 Things To Know About Autism), Huffington Post
