Pop is a portrait of Hy Meyerowitz, a street wise and funny 87 year-old who
maintains his optimism about life in the face of old age and now Alzheimer's
Disease. Photographer Joel Meyerowitz--seeing his father aging--felt the need
to spend more time with him and to make sure his own son, Sasha, would better
know his grandfather. On a two-week road trip from Florida back to New York
City where Hy was born, the trio recaptures the fading memories of Hy's life.
Meyerowitz, one of the world's great photographers, has created a loving depiction
that resonates beyond one man's tribute to his father. While de-mystifying the
misconceptions that surround Alzheimer's, Meyerwitz creates an intimate family
love story about an unforgettable character, a true underdog who in spite of
his deficits can still teach us about life and how to live it fully.
