A Film by Seymour Wishman & John Swindells
Father Thomas Berry was born in the hill country of North Carolina, and educated
as a Catholic priest. He is a historian of cultures, a highly respected author
and public speaker, an environmental activist, and a poet. He has studied the
languages and cultures of India and China and has participated in the educational
programs of the T'Boli tribes in Mandanao in the Phillipines. He is the author
of numerous articles and several books including the highly respected The Dream
of the Earth. He also co-wrote The Universe Story with Brian Swimme, which was
published in 1992. This profound and poetic modern myth, which combines science
and the humanities, may become the blueprint for the education of the future.
"The most provocative figure among this new breed of eco-theologians, Thomas
Berry is a solitary American monk whose essays have aroused environmentalists
like a voice crying for the wilderness." - Newsweek
