A Film by Mika Kaurismaki
Finland's schizoid psyche is once
again on display in Zombie and
the Ghost Train as young Zombie bounces from the army to down-and-out jobs,
living with his girlfriend, drinking too much, and trying to get a gig with
the Ghost Train, a band that's "seen but never heard." A rueful,
darkly funny portrait of a skinny, terminally wistful bass player "on a
collision course with oblivion", Zombie and
the Ghost Train is a Sid Vicious story for the 90s, a punk tinged comedy about
one pretty wasted guy.
"Part docu-fiction, part Hamlet-style tragedy and just a bit screwball."
- New York Times
"It's as fine as anything either of the talented, charismatic Kaurismaki
brothers has ever done. It's shot through with a dark, absurdist sense of humor
and is ravishing to behold in its elegant, easy flow of shimmering images."
- Los Angeles Times
